| | Vizhigalin arugil vaanam | ] | There is this friend of mine called Chilli. Chilli and myself have had this argument on the effect movies have on us - positive and negative. He says that if a person is inspired to a particular motive - then it wud be irrespective of the movie. My take is that, even if i accept that a person might be either going towards positive actions or negative ones - through his intrinsic motives, the external cues, might accelerate his journey.
I was just relating this argument with a comment from another friend. This guy is an MBA grad, trying to do something different. He says that he wants to do this thing X. To do that he has to do intermediate steps of 1,2 and 3. Which are not as exciting as X and his time of stay in 1,2 and 3 are turning out to be longer than expected. Essentially he was running out of patience. Now the point is, he has been clear of this objective (X) for a pretty long time. And he has been attempting getting thru 1,2 and 3 only for last couple of months. He is not the only one. In most cases, with my friends we feel the lack of excitement on a sustained basis and hence get frustrated with the things which we are doing.
I am sure my logic is kinda long winded, but still. I think the lack of patience or the requirement of consistent and quick returns to any effort is reflected/ influenced by the kind of movies also. We need immediate and explicit gratification in movies - 1. An intro song/ fight sequence as soon as movie starts. 2. A protoganist who is assured of success 3. A series of sustained gratiication - a parallel comedy track maybe. 4. A grand climax - which we are assured of since the beginning For the lack of the one or the above - we tend not value the movie, like it or even rate it as a decent movie.
It seems very similar to the saying which i had read somewhere - that " We have been brought up on a diet made of action movies, blonde babes and rock music. We are slowly realising that lifes not like that. And we are getting pissed." |

But one fine saturday when I came back to my lj page, there was a sudden urge.. kinda like the blast from the past types.
Would be using this space more frequently and consistently. Until then, tc. |

[Apr. 21st, 2005|11:48 pm] |
The title to my blog have become the toughest part to write. So I have decided to title the blogs whatever song i am hearing to currently as the title if i cant come up with something/anything.
Booming hits on my blog... inspite of some lazy bums using bloglines : has kept me motivated to churn out more crap the usual way i do - write out whatever i think whenever i get enough enthu to come online and signin and follow a series of 4-5 clicks intermitent with slow download speeds... lot of barriers.. but still here i am, faithful to the unknowing readers of mine...
There are a number of topics i would like to mention and comment on: 1. New pope being a part of the Nazi movement. He was an unwilling member of it- he says. No comments 2. Competition has its negative fallouts. It sometimes pushes the participants to the limits where the line between rules, tactics and ethics blur. Such is the situation between the IIMs rte now. IIM A for the time being is still unhit by all the comparative statistics. But with the other two catching up fast, all the time throwing slush at each other - ahmedabad will soon be hit by another kind of dirt - the corporate dirt. But they still have time to protect themselves from it.
Elaborating on the shit, the competition for "good" students between the colleges have started. Though majorty of the students would like to believe that there is no true ranking among them and each one is good in thier own fields, when it comes to proving their own mettle by attracting all the students with common calls to their institute - they turn blind to their beliefs and start having irrelevant rankings and measurement scales etc.
3. Selection of coach to the indian cricket team - John did a decent job - he atleast mades ure that he gave back the same team that he took under him. In other management jargon, he didnt erode value. So he deserved a say in the selection of the new coach. In fact, more than his deservedness, it would have benefitted if he gives feedback on selection and pointers to the new man on what to do and what not to do...
Neways, not much seems to be going perfectly well around the idle me... Let us see.
ciao, sudheer. |

"People say that writing as an art is a gift. Its an absolute lie... All stories start in life and end in life. One needs to observe things very attentively. One should always be conscious about the way he is writing - whether anyone else will be able to tell the same story in a better manner" - says Madhavan (playing the role of Writer Indra) in Kannathil Muthamittal. I found this bit of monologue highly applicable to any form of activity that one takes up in life. It can be inspiring to some people. |

| Its a matter of choice |
[Dec. 23rd, 2004|04:51 pm] |
went with three of my friends to see Swades yesterday. I would talk about my learnings and utility first and then comment on what anyone else can expect from the movie.
1. Everyone has his/her own comparative advantage(s), the things that are close to their heart and they are good at, and hence it is just a matter of conviction and guts to choose to do what you want and do it your way(not necessarily different). If you practice and be great (instead of just good) in the area of interest the choice would obfuscate into the obvious.
2. I have felt this before also. This world has enough space for everyone. It is just our narrow way of looking at things which fails to recognise the space. And it is also very easy to create space. Eating into each other is a futile exercise. Teamwork, self sufficient resources, ever increasing productivity and drive for self improvement are the essentials.
3. People make nation, career, lifestyle. People are more important than positions and cadre and status.
Swades is a must-see for many reasons : its simple narrative, perfect casting, good performances, excellent music, great lyrics and above all an honest intention to tell a good story without dressing up the show like a soft porno. Call me a orthodox or conservative or whatever, I sure do feel that it feels great to see a movie with no double entendres all through and a forced into item song and a scene with panting sounds in the re-recording track. Try it out. |

Road conditions went from bad to worse here... To such an extent that yesterday a bus sunk into the road... yeah, u read it right... BUS SUNK INTO THE ROAD!!.. and the road turned into a overnight open park with people abandoning their bikes and cars in the slush and wading their way thru to their homes... Maybe this is just another incident of "Happens only in india!!!" |

source : Sridhar Raman aka Chilli
I always had a feeling that hot women never become wives of normal human beings.. They just become models and enjoy a very very popular lifestyle... Burn Tiger Woods... He has tried to tamper with my laws of nature and is slowly coming out successful also.

I planned to tell my mom and dad about my blog. But now this post (read photo) has delayed that grand announcement till the time this post goes and buries itself deep into the archives..
Today, I started with this fantastic habit of posting pics.. a very easy way of posting good stuf... but its killing my already dying writing skill.. so shall restrict my photo-blogs to really good ones like these ones.:P
A sudden realisation has dawned on me today that i am born to be a finance person and all my attempts (some what contrived) at marketing like creativity and sales person like demeanors were like... Adam Gilchrist reading something about nanoparticles and wanting to become a material scientist... If only he had pursued strongly on the same wimsical sense, world wud have lost a great thing.. whoa.. what a revelation.I am going to become an economics professor... Done..:PP
signing off, more not so thot out stuff later. ciao, sn |

| nice... |
[Oct. 10th, 2004|12:46 pm] |
Getting up with a oh-such a beautiful morning feel is rare. Today is one such day. I am happy with myself to some extent. This is the first week of this semester I attended all of my 8 o clock classes. I got my bike fit and running this week. Last I had used my bike was to commute during my summer internship stint. 3 and a half months of standing at the same place had made the capital worth of my bike negative. I guess the 300 bucks i spent on it yesterday was well worth it. I had breakfast 5 out of 7 days this week. Started reading up stuff for my CCS project. Procured a digicam and am at the verge of getting a tripod also. This was after 3 days of lazy weekend last week at home. Domestic debt of time spending also cleared. This debt was not at all costly to serve.:). In fact it turned out to be a very very profitable affair. Lnt spamming reached new heights.
Impressive and nice.
It would have been nicer if only India had played better in the bangalore test match, if only I had gotten access to digi cable quicker, if only my comp didnt cup so frequently, if only I didnt suffer from dust allergy... and more. |

[Oct. 8th, 2004|10:58 pm] |
is very similar to maintaining an affair..
what do one do in orkut? Ogle at pics of friends, friends' friends and so on...FoaF must be a babe.
How frequently does one do that? 4 times a day during the first few days... then daily then weekly then monthly
even ogling at just pics can become tiring.
Source: Two of my friends on orkut - Nadia and Vishy - depending on who you are take your pic. |

| hot women, mad men and lots of movies |
[Oct. 7th, 2004|06:38 pm] |
I was just wondering why a hot woman called a hot? Maybe the guy who found out that name was a person who liked hot food?..ok ok... i shall refrain from starting a new post on a pervert note... Maybe the guy was an ARSe member and found beautiful girl untouchable (there shd be another gandhi to make this phenomena extinct) and equated her to hot untouchable objects... Maybe it was the "hot and spicy" conotation... if yes, then its a decent possibility that the guy who coined the term might have been a gult... chalo, i shall end my not-so-hot rambling here and tell you guys(are u there???) what i have been upto in the last some days...
Watching movies...
Found out a nice huge cd store near to my campus.. awesome collection... good quality print... for my non indian readers, the quality of print of a cd is of major concern due to the ingenuity of indians in general... we dont need technology for making piracy easy...:))... neways, have seen 4 movies in last 24 hrs... And I am supposed to be in a very responsible post in my college and that post is supposed to be consuming more than 24hrs time per day of mine... blah! movies rock...
Kudaikkul Mazhai (Its raining under the umbrella) - very moving movie... brilliant screenplay, music is not a classic - but doesnt let down the movie and all... worth going to the theatre and watching it... :P(sorry, i saw it on a cd)... Parthiban's acting, wit, direction, the art direction in building the house, the scripting style, the selection of heroine (hot!).. the list goes on... awesome.. i wud recommend all to watch this more than once... Other movies were Anjali, Pudhiya Padhai (Parthiban again) and Friends (worst of the lot i saw... even that was good...)
Digicam without a USB cable sucks big time...:((
till next time.. ciao. |

| My trip |
[Oct. 5th, 2004|10:01 am] |
I plan to carry around a small planner/book along with me from now on... Because I seem to get good ideas for a blog write up while travelling. walking up the college aisle etc etc... Having lost all my brilliant ideas, this is one of those straight narratives without great insights...
I just returned from my three day chennai trip. Apparently my purpose of the trip was to take care of my kid sister(she is 18) when my parents off to shirdi for the weekend. But I was amazed to see how much my sister has grown up. She cooked, cleaned, planned (almost like my mom) and moreover my little fights with her seems to have to come to a very silent death. Amazed. Kudos to my mom who did not repeat the same mistakes that she did with me while bringing me up.
That reminds me that I am sitting in midst of a garbage pile in my room.. Shall clean it up and write more.. hopefully interesting stuff. |

| Janat the teacher |
[Sep. 30th, 2004|01:54 pm] |
Today afternoon I had this lecture on "International Business in Practice". Had a case discussion. Prof Janat Shah was on song. After a long time I was awed by the ability by a prof to draw out the right strings out of the students (it was a bloody interactive session) and make out a strong thread of logic which resembles the one he initially had in his mind. Magic show where a rabbit comes out of nowhere. beautiful rabbit. god level prof.
I feel that unlike technical field where the subject can evagelise itself to some extent, mgmt studies will die off (i sure hoped it wud, at many points in the past) if not for the prof who preaches the ideas to his students. Long live janat. and maybe mgmt as long as he is there |
